Domaine Lejeune
Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, the village of Pommard is renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noir wines, shaped by a unique terroir of limestone and clay soils. This distinctive terroir imparts robust and velvety flavors to the wines, underscored by subtle earthy nuances, making Pommard a celebrated destination for wine enthusiasts. Among its esteemed producers, Domaine Lejeune stands out, boasting a rich heritage that dates back to 1783. Originally expanded to over 50 acres by Maxime Lejeune in the 19th century, the domaine is now under the stewardship of the Jullien de Pommerol family, ensuring a legacy of vinicultural excellence.
The current custodians of Domaine Lejeune, François Jullien de Pommerol and winemaker Aubert Lefas, continue the tradition of crafting wines through time-honored methods. François, a former enology professor at Beaune's Lycée Viticole, oversees the vineyard and winemaking processes with a commitment to preserving Pommard's legacy. The domaine's 10-hectare vineyard employs traditional techniques such as open wooden vat fermentation, including a historic vat encircled by 17 hoops of white birch, the oldest of its kind in Burgundy. This dedication to traditional winemaking makes Domaine Lejeune a symbol of Pommard's enduring allure and a beacon of vinicultural excellence.
