Domaine Godier

Vincent, a passionate wine lover rather than a traditional vine grower or winemaker. Purchased the estate from Domaine Chopin, he now owns just over 1 hectare in Nuits-Saint-Georges and 0.5 hectares in Chambolle-Musigny. His journey into winemaking was driven by passion, after years of working across the globe.

Although Vincent didn’t start with a winemaking background, he has embraced a hands-on approach with a deep respect for the land. The Chopin brothers continue to take care of the vineyards, farming them with a simple and thoughtful approach that avoids chemicals, focusing instead on grass management to control moisture levels and maintain soil vitality.

The domaine is on the verge of transitioning to organic farming, reflecting Vincent's long-term commitment to sustainability. Since 2016, the estate has also been producing a micro cuvée of Nuits-Saint-Georges blanc, a true expression of the region’s terroir.

For the reds, he adopts a natural approach to vinification, using a large proportion of whole clusters (60 to 90%) to express the raw, pure fruit. The wines are aged in barrels with an average of 15 to 20% new oak, allowing the wines to mature with finesse while avoiding any overpowering oak influence. Pumping and racking are minimized to preserve the integrity of the fruit, and the wines are generally not filtered, ensuring they remain as authentic as possible.
