Le Rocher des Violettes

Founded in 2005 by Xavier Weisskopf, Le Rocher des Violettes has become one of Montlouis’ leading estates. After training in Chablis and Beaune and working as chef du cave at Château de Saint Cosme in Gigondas, Xavier settled in Montlouis, drawn by its old-vine Chenin Blanc and exceptional terroirs. He began with 7 hectares and now farms 17 hectares across nine lieux-dits, many planted before WWII, with some vines nearing 130 years old.

Certified organic (Ecocert), the vineyards are harvested by hand and vinified with native yeasts in stainless steel and mostly neutral oak. The clay-limestone soils over tuffeau bedrock give his wines striking tension and minerality.

His Chenins are celebrated for their clarity and laser precision, while his Touraine reds (from Côt and others) show remarkable depth and finesse.
