Château du Cèdre
Born from Belgian roots and French terroir, Château du Cèdre’s story began when Léon Verhaeghe fled World War I and settled in the Lot. His son Charles, inspired by local winemaking traditions, planted the estate’s first vines in 1958 amid limestone-rich soils—marking the humble beginnings of what would become a Cahors benchmark.
In 1973, Charles and Marie-Thérèse bottled their inaugural vintage, balancing winemaking with lavender distillation. When illness struck, their sons Pascal and Jean-Marc returned, combining expertise from Guffens-Heynen, Napa Valley, and Sauternes to elevate the estate. Their relentless focus on quality—Pascal in the cellar, Jean-Marc in the vines—propelled Château du Cèdre to the pinnacle of Malbec excellence.
Now guided by a third generation (Jules and Robin), the estate continues to innovate while honoring its deep roots, crafting wines that express the power and finesse of Cahors’ unique limestone terroir.
