Domaine Pellé

Used to be seen as a poor Sancerre, Menetou-Salon is now hosting great winemakers producing vibrant wines at very good price. Domaine Henry Pellé is definitely one of them. Paul-Henry Pellé is the fourth generation of this family estate. He organically farms 40 hectares of vines in the kimmeridgian-centric village of Morogues in the appellation of Menetou-Salon. The property is planted with 33% Pinot Noir and 66% Sauvignon Blanc, both of which thrive in these lauded soils. The majority of the estate's 40 Ha of vines are situated in and around the village of Morogues. As Paul-Henry explained, “Morogues is comprised of 90% Kimmeridgian limestone. This is why my grandfather pushed so hard to give it the status it deserved”.

The vines are farmed organically and there is a crew of 8 full time vineyard workers to work the soils and apply organic preps and compost.

The fermentation for the Menetou Morogues occurs in a majority of stainless steel tanks with about 15% in wood, both foudres and 400-liter barrels. The single-vineyard wines are raised in 70% wood and the rest in tank. The wines are fermented 100% with indigenous yeasts and are raised for a minimum of 11-12 months before bottling. Sulfur is used in extremely low quantity.
